Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Holcomb

This will be my twentieth year teaching fifth grade in Okemos.  I have an Associate Degree in theater from L.C.C., a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from M.S.U., and a Master's Degree in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College.  I really enjoy teaching this age group of children!  I also enjoy incorporating my love of art and drama into the lessons that I teach.  My teaching passion is Social Studies, and I teach it to all of the classes on the Maverick Team, as well as Language Arts to my homeroom class. I will also be teaching two sections of Drama and Public Speaking.

I am a true fan of Okemos Public Schools, and want the very best for both my students and my two daughters who will be attending sixth grade and eleventh grade this school year.  This has led me to take on several leadership roles within our district and at Kinawa.  I want the school environment to be a motivating, safe, and exciting place to be, and I work hard to make it that way.

I try to enjoy life to its fullest and have many interests outside of school.  Family is very important to me, and quality time with my girls, my husband, and our cavachon puppy, Maple, is central to my time outside of school. I love to travel, camp, and hike, and spend a good portion of the summer near Lake Michigan as much as possible.  I love to garden, craft and scrapbook, and I'm working hard on some personal fitness goals.  I am a true soccer mom, and can often be found cheering on my daughter Kaylee at practices or games, or working on soccer skills with her at different soccer fields. I also support the drama program at the high school, as Maren is frequently involved in the shows there.

We have many fun adventures to come in this school year.  I am looking forward to getting to know my new students and their parents, and I know that we will have our Best Year Ever this year!
