School of Choice for Current Families
Important Information for Current Families: Address Updates & School of Choice
As we begin to wrap up this school year and look ahead to the 2026-27 school year, we want to share an important reminder to help ensure a smooth start for your child. If your family has recently moved out of the district, is planning to move out of the district prior to the start of the 2026-27 school year, or currently lives outside of the district and has been released by your home district to attend OPS, please take a moment to review the information below.
Why This Matters
We want to avoid situations where families believe their child is enrolled for fall, only to learn in August that they are not eligible to return. Our goal is to make sure every family has clear information now so there are no surprises later.

Understanding School of Choice
To help set expectations, please note:
- School of Choice is a lottery-based process
- The district cannot prioritize students based on previous attendance
- Preference may be given in limited cases, such as:
- Siblings of current students
- Children of district staff
- Available space is limited:
- Grades K-4: approximately 10 openings per grade
- Grades 5-12: very limited availability, often only a few openings per grade
What to Do Next
If your address has changed or will change to out of the OPS district before the start of the 2026-27 school year, please update your information with the district as soon as possible. If you will need School of Choice, be sure to apply during the upcoming June 1-15 window:
