Grant Funding

The district uses its Multi-Tiered System of Supports, or MTSS, framework to identify student and building needs.

Student academic performance, benchmark assessment results, classroom data, attendance, behavioral information, and ongoing progress monitoring are reviewed to determine how funding can most effectively support student learning.

Section 31a funding is prioritized for supplemental staff, interventions, and instructional resources that directly address barriers to student growth and achievement.

Multilingual Learner Support

Multilingual Learner teachers provide direct and consultative language-acquisition services that help students develop English-language proficiency and access grade-level instruction.

MTSS Instructional Support

MTSS instructional coaches review student data, support teachers and paraprofessionals in implementing evidence-based interventions, coordinate learning lab services, and monitor student progress.

Learning Lab Support

Learning lab paraprofessionals provide targeted reading and mathematics instruction for identified students in grades K–8. Literacy interventions are aligned with the Science of Reading and are designed to provide students with supplemental instruction based on their individual learning needs.

Supplemental Learning Resources

Supplemental learning programs and licenses provide targeted support in reading, mathematics, and language acquisition for students in grades K–12.

Student learning is reviewed throughout the school year using benchmark assessments, classroom performance, attendance records, behavioral information, and other academic indicators. Benchmark data is reviewed three times each year, while ongoing progress monitoring helps educators determine whether interventions are producing the intended results and whether adjustments are needed.

The district’s published plan focuses on improving student achievement in English language arts and mathematics while strengthening social-emotional supports. Funding may support targeted interventions, tutoring, instructional coaching, supplemental learning materials, staff training, and additional academic assistance.

Michigan’s approved expenditure period for 23g grant funds continues through October 30, 2027. The availability and timing of specific Okemos Public Schools programs may depend on the district’s approved plan, budget, and remaining funds.

ESSER III funding supported tutoring, summer learning, literacy and intervention programs, student mental health and behavioral services, additional staffing, cleaning and health-related measures, technology and instructional resources, and services for multilingual learners and students with disabilities.

ESSER III was a temporary federal relief program and is no longer an active source of funding. The district maintains this information for transparency and historical reference.
