Supervisor of Sex Education
Supervisor of Sex Education
Provide information and training in sex education and health to faculty and staff; Act as a resource for the district with respect to sex education; Provide information and guidance to parents.
Initial Compensation: $30/hour
15-20 Hours Per Month
Qualifications:
- A physician licensed to practice in Michigan; or
- A nurse licensed to practice in Michigan; or
- An educator who possesses a valid Michigan teaching certificate and has 3 years of experience in health education instruction or related area. This should include an undergraduate or graduate course in sex education or human sexuality, training in “Puberty: The Wonder Years” (Michigan Model), and 20 clock hours of in-service in Human Reproductive Health.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as liaison among the advisory board, school leadership, parents/guardians, ISD, school district and MDE
- Maintain records related to PHASE Board meetings, Board of Education adoptions, and district policies
- Communicate the legal roles and responsibilities related to sex education and HIV/STI prevention to all school staff
- Ensure all parent/guardian notification and opt-out requirements are followed; coordinate parent/guardian opt-out requests
- Assist teaching staff by notifying them of currently approved materials and methods, providing them with teaching materials and PD
- Ensure goals and objectives of sex education program are evaluated every two years
- Provide timely updates and reports to the district and Board of Education on changes to the sex education program
- Facilitate the Personal Health and Sexuality Education Advisory Board meetings (PHASE)
- Available to teach lessons at the local school level as needed
- Update and monitor the curriculum, approved lessons, and related information on the shared network and Google Drive
- Research for new curriculum materials, videos, materials, and resources as needed to present to the PHASE Board
